STEAM

Each class at Millwood Kindergarten Center participates in our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) classroom several times a week. Students engage in project-based learning and design challenges on their own and in collaboration with their classmates. We believe that introducing children as young as five years old to STEAM in the classroom fosters a deeper understanding of the world around them. Research suggests that arts-based learning can lead to deeper engagement, better retention of content, greater emotional involvement in learning, and a stronger ability to apply principles across disciplines.

An additional component within our STEAM program is “Project Lead the Way” which empowers students to adopt a design-thinking mindset through compelling activities, projects, and problems. Next Generation Science Standards, Washington State Standards, and developmentally appropriate practices for kindergarten are all components of the program.
